Prepping for the Year

7/13/2017

Prepping for the year is essential for writing success.
  • narrative (story writing)
  • expository (factual writing)
  • response to lit (opinion pieces supported by literature)

  1. Familiarize yourself with each genre; review the steps and the processes for success.
  2. Set out a timeline for the year. (divide the year into parts. Timelines are in manuals)
  3. Run templates for each genre and place them in the file.
  4. As the year begins, tie in all subject areas, life and school functions, and student passions into classroom/ home school writing.
  5. Remember to encourage student voice, but provide clear modeling so they become confident, empowered writers.
